Loco Pilot is a senior-level post in Indian Railways.  The Loco Pilot is the person who is responsible for running the train and proper maintenance of the train during its movement.  The loco pilot is responsible for the safety of the people sitting on the train.

 Step-1:  Pass 10+2: Interested candidates must have completed their 10+2 or any other course or passed the SSC examination or its equivalent from a recognized board.  Students must have at least 50 per cent marks from any recognized Indian board.

 Step-2 Associate Degree: If students choose to obtain a Bachelor’s degree, they must also meet specific eligibility requirements of various educational institutions.  The selection process varies greatly from university to university in terms of marks and registration process.  A standard Associate in Science degree or certificate includes courses in the history of railroads, railroad technology, rail transportation, safety, operational law, and ground school.  Training in secondary school includes English, mathematics, physics, electronics, mechanics and computers.

Step-3 ITI Programme:  Loco Pilot must be qualified in the ITI program from an institution approved by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) or State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT).  They can also pursue engineering diploma in any electrical, electronic, mechanical or automotive engineering disciplines from an All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)-recognized institute.

 When you apply for loco pilot, first of all, you have to take a written examination.  This exam is of 120 marks, you are given 90 minutes to give this exam and minus marking is also kept in this exam.  This means that if you do any question wrong, your marks will also be deducted.

  • To become a loco pilot, the minimum age of the candidates should be 18 years and a maximum of 30 years.  Relaxation is provided to reserved categories as per the rules.
  • The age limit for candidates to become a Loco Pilot is 18-28 years.  Age relaxation for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Ex-Servicemen etc.) is given by the government.
